I saw a very cute tassel keychain at Kate Spade, but couldn’t help but gawk at the price. A couple of days later, my shoe designer upstairs neighbor was tossing out yards of patent leather and I salvaged it from the trash figuring I could do something with it… And then it dawned on me: I could have that keychain after all!
Supplies:
- leather, faux leather, felt, or any fabric that won’t fray or, alternately, looks better once it frays (denim, anyone?)—you can even use scraps from a damaged bag, or a piece you pick up for a steal at the thrift store—cut into a rectangle and a thin strip
- glue gun
- key ring
Put the thin strip through the key ring and glue the ends together.

Cut slits into the rectangular piece, leaving about half an inch border at the top.

Once you’ve finished with your slits, turn the rectangle over and glue the loop with the key ring onto one end.

Run a line of glue up the length of the piece of fabric and begin rolling your tassel, going slow to ensure the top stays aligned.

Throw your keys on and you’re out the door. In style.
