Inspired by the stenciled painting “Float Like Butterfly Sting Like Bee” by Christopher Wool at MoMA (which now, in postcard form, hangs over my vanity), I picked up some stencils of my own ($5 or less at most any craft or hardware store) and, with nothing more than a pencil, some Sharpies, plain white paper from my printer, and a couple of frames from my closet, I made my own “goodnight” artwork (in French and Icelandic) for each bedside (scroll down to see).
Since this project is about as cheap and simple as one can get, I just had to share:
To start, you’ll need a frame, alphabet stencils, some paper, a pencil, and fine-tipped marker, and a thicker marker.

For a quick measurement, pop the glass (or plexi) out of the frame, and trace the perimeter onto your paper.

Lay out your stencils so you know where to start tracing.

Trace out your letters with pencil.

In order to get a clean edge, use a fine-tipped marker to outline each letter.

Next, fill in each letter with your Sharpie.

Cut out your artwork, frame, and proudly display your original, witty work!

Goodnight!
