Okay, so sorry for holding out on you, but since the beau reads this site, I couldn’t give up the goods on this before I actually gave him this gift for Romantic Hanukah (our anniversary and V-Day are 4 days apart, so we do big gifts on each and small ones on the days in between). Since we just got back from celebrating the big one-oh in Mexico and he’s opened all his gifts, I can tell you about this amazing gift idea I found!

I didn’t come up with this all on my own, mind you; I got the link from design*sponge. Basically, there’s this really great Boston-based design company called JHill Design that does this really cute “a toast to” series of graphic geographic prints inspired by vintage flash-cards. But the best part is that you can get your very own customized just for you! And at $34 for a 5″x7″ print, it’s one of the best affordable customized art pieces I’ve come across. And the bonus: they’re super cute!

How it works: Pick your size/price, then designate your country (it can be any country in the world), city (for longitude and latitude stats), year, three key words, a brief sentence, and pick your pattern for the country and submit your order. For the beau, I ordered two prints, one of Iceland, because we met on a flight to Iceland, and one of Panama, because we lived there for two years and it has had a significant impact in our lives and on our relationship.

I hope to add to this collection over the years as we continue to explore the world together. How fun will that be to watch the framed personalized flash-card collection grow?

Anyway, this is a gift idea that can be customized to commemorate a birthday, a trip you took with friends, family, or a loved one, or anything, really (Jersey Shore, anyone?). Know someone who’s moving out of town? JHill does customized city prints as well…

And by the way, the turn-around time was wicked fast, so if you’ve got an occasion coming up soon, don’t worry—it’ll be ready in time!
