Remember that Robert Palmer video with the gals in black mini dresses and the luscious red lips… Powerful!

Well RED is indeed a powerful color and red lips are desirable (and intimidating)… and forever a classic.

Red lips dominated the catwalks a few years back and it usually takes a few years for trends to trickle down to the masses (with the exception of the hip OMFGstyle readers).

Lipgloss had center-stage for decades, which means that there is a whole generation of gals that have NEVER wore lipstick… thinking that it was too “Granny.” Well I assure you, if you look at the pics of granny in her heyday she was as glamorous as she was beautiful in her red, red lipstick.

So let’s welcome back the mystique of lipstick and answer one of the toughest questions:

How do I choose the right red for me?

Firstly, you must be ready to wear red and not let the red wear you. Know what I mean?

RED attracts attention, so you better be ready for it!!

In fact, when you first go out in your red lippie, be prepared to received lots of compliments, but they may not be on your lipstick! You may hear questions like; “Have you cut your hair, or lost weight, you look fabulous but I just can’t pinpoint it” …It’s the lippie!

Tips for Rockin’ The Red Lip (in no particular order):
1. Wear your red lipstick whilst vaccuming or doing chores around the house so you feel comfortable in it before venturing out.
2. Consider the type of red you want to rock. Fire engine, scarlet, or touch-of-red—see suggestions below.
3. When you choose to wear red lipstick; DO NOT WEAR MUCH MAKE-UP, KEEP THE EYES CLEAN. Otherwise, you will look clownish. This is the biggest reason why women shy away from the red tube.

How fabulous is this quote which appeared in Harper’s Bazaar in 1946;

“When a women has lost her lover, when a girl has lost her job, when the doctor has told his fatal news, when the luck is leaving, the dinner party flopping, …the sudden streak of lipstick across the lips spells courage.  It is not done frivolously, but resolutely, desperately, defiantly, even gaily, with the dash of dignity of a courageous heart.”

So this Valentine’s Day get your red lippie out and rock it!
