Valentines Day-Inspired Fashion Picks

Valentines Day-Inspired Fashion Picks

I know I know…Valentine’s Day = Barf, and almost everyone hates it.  But the pursuit and/or expression of love never ceases, so in celebration of that warm and fuzzy notion, I went in search of some love-related fashions.

I’ve never liked heart-shapes, probably because they are usually on childrens’ clothes or involved in tacky designs; but, in setting out to find some VD-themed fashions (heh heh heh…sorry had a Beavis moment) I was pleasantly surprised by items such as the black patent-leather heart-shaped peeptoes from Alexander McQueen, or the Thomas Wylde Broken Heart T-shirt dress.

I also love the Vivienne Westwood logo pieces. Showing a pendant and two pairs of earrings might have been overkill, but she just rules.  And, a master of cutesy fashion, Marc Jacobs’ heart-shaped gold and enamel earrings and adorable mouse mirror case somehow make cuteness and whimsy still cool.

Wear your hearts on your sleeve and breasts with Topshop’s Thumb-heart raglan longsleeve from Illustrated People, and the racy lacy Heart-lace bra, as well as the Crafted Heart vest-top from Republic.  The eco-conscious heart-patterned shoulder bag from NV Calcutta London proves that all can be fair-trade in love.

Ok, ok, I think I’ve proved that hearts don’t always have to prompt your gag reflex.  Let’s move on to other Love-themed items…

I friggin love the ‘Patti Smith’ clutch,  be-dazzled (ok, be-sparkled!) with lyrics from “Because the Night”, the uber-passionate song that she wrote with The Boss.  Also adorable is the beaded Betsey Johnson clutch thats throwin you a sexy wink! (and wink-wink, this item is currently more than 50% off at macys.com!)

And finally (and also on-sale!) is the zip-punk-animal dress in startling red and a chest-to-midriff zipper!  Cuz nothing says ‘I love you’ like easy access! ;)
