Ah, the post-Christmas, pre-New Year’s week of sales, shopping, and eating cookies for breakfast. As you know, most of your favorite shops are holding major clearance blow-outs right now, so if you’re brave enough to fight the crowds, your gift cards can go far if you get shopping now!
Not to be overlooked are the sales on holiday items, particularly cards. Generally over-priced and disappointingly often only 8 to a box, the cutest holiday cards are generally passed over for the sensible, less-stylish, possibly generic bulk-box purchase during the holiday shopping season. But if you buy your cards for next year now (can’t figure out where to keep them for a year? Stash them with your holiday decorations and you’ll be pleasantly surprised when you pull them out next fall), you can save big time and you might just have the best cards in the mailbox.
My favorite places to shop for post-holiday card deals are the MoMA store (where boxes of 3-D cards start at only $7.99), Papyrus, and Urban Outfitters. Unfortunately, UO doesn’t have their cards available online, so you’ll have to bundle up and step outside to get your ironic, often naughty fix.
And ornaments are on sale too; check out all the cute ones at Jonathan Adler or your favorite local boutique.
