Here in Brooklyn, kids trick-or-treat at the stores or the private brownstones, not my apartment over the dry cleaner. I’d love the opportunity to hand out candy and see all the adorable little costumes (I’m particularly fond of babies dressed as pea pods). However, until I get my hands on the deed to a multi-million dollar brownstone of my very own, all I can do is dish out advice to the rest of you. And my advice is this: you don’t have to be the lame-o with apples or toothbrushes, but you also don’t have to go the corn syrupy, obesity-causing mini candy bar route either. Halloween is your opportunity to show kids that healthful, natural snacks can not only be yummy, but just might just be yummier than the mass-produced artificial crap they’re getting everywhere else.

Just in time for Halloween delivery, here are a few suggestions of candies you can feel good about:

Honey Mint Patties, 20 for $8.49

YummyEarth Organic Lollipops (Sour Apple Tart, Pomegranate Pucker, Mango Tango, TooBerry Blueberry, Googly Grape, Strawberry Smash, Very Very Cherry, Wet-Face Watermelon), 150 for $16.15

55% Dark Chocolate Bites, 45 mini-chocolate bars for $13.49

Halloween Popcorn Balls, 6 for $4.59

Citrus Slices Mix Organic Hard Candy (Orange and Lemon), 45 for $6.49

Or, if you’re feeling really ambitious, you can make your very own vegan candy corn, via this recipe from UrbanHousewife.

Seeing as I live in a 4th floor walk-up, I miss out on passing out treats. But I may have to order some of those honey mint patties anyway. You know, just in case someone makes the trek upstairs.
